The activities

Originally farmers and breeders, the first Romans cultivated the fields with their bronze plows and fed on cereals (wheat and spelled), legumes (peas, chickpeas and fava beans), fruit (apples and figs) and olives.

They collected the herbs and small fruits that the area offered spontaneously.

They raised sheep, pigs and also oxen, which they used in the work of the fields, did not often eat meat but mainly fed on polenta and cheese.

They used olive oil as a condiment and drank water and milk; wine was a highly prized drink, intended for patrician consumption.

From the sea they obtained the salt, which they filtered from the water.

With the growth of the city, the needs of the population and the specialization of the production of artefacts also grew: wool and hemp fabrics were produced, with which the clothes of the time and large cloaks were made to shelter from the cold.

Terracotta objects, decorated clay pots, work tools and copper weapons and numerous bronze objects were made.

Gold, silver and amber were worked and animal skins were tanned.

Carpenters built rectangular or oval huts built with tuff walls and covered with thatched roofs, dry branches and mud, allowing the city to expand more and more.
